Size-Dependent Behaviour of Hard Rock Under Triaxial Loading

چکیده

Abstract Understanding size effects is important to rigorously analyse the behaviour of rocks and rock masses at different scales for applications. A number empirical numerical studies have included on uniaxial compressive strength rocks, but only few focussed triaxial strength. In this study, several tests were conducted granite samples confinements (from 0.2 15 MPa) sizes 30 84 mm in diameter). The most relevant parameters recovered including peak residual strengths, orientation frictional response shear bands. Size observed be less dominant high confining pressures both strengths. resulting data analysed context size-dependent theories. For analyses, unified effect law (USEL) improved (IUSEL) used, which double trends, ascending descending behaviours observed. Size-dependent Hoek–Brown modified failure criteria based USEL IUSEL fit strengths exhibiting a good agreement between models laboratory data. brittle-ductile transition band under loading also analysed. clear brittle was particularly with large-diameters tested low confinements. Finally, regards behaviour, angle found affected by confinement sample size.

On the effect of grain size on rock behavior under cyclic loading by distinct element method

It is well-known that the mechanical behavior of rocks under cyclic loading is much different from static loading conditions. In most constructions, the load applied to structures is within dynamic ranges. That’s why a great deal of attention has been paid towards this field in order to identify the dynamic behavior of rocks in more details. Nevertheless, the nature of dynamic failure in rocks ...

Characterisation of Acoustic Emission Sources in a Rock Salt Specimen under Triaxial Load

This study presents the application of an automated moment tensor analysis procedure on microcracks which were generated during a triaxial compression test of a cylindrical rock salt specimen (diameter 150 mm, length 300 mm). The acoustic emission signals were detected in a frequency range between 20 kHz and 1 MHz using 12 acoustic emission sensors mounted on the surface of the specimen cylinde...

Mechanical behaviour of TWIP steel under shear loading

Twinning induced plasticity steels (TWIP) are very good candidate for automotive industry applications because they potentially offer large energy absorption before failure due to their exceptional strain hardening capability and high strength. However, their behaviour is drastically influenced by the loading conditions. In this work, the mechanical behaviour of a TWIP steel sheet sample was in...

Behaviour of anisotropic conductive joints under mechanical loading

Anisotropic conductive films (ACFs) received a great deal of attention in recent years for interconnection applications in electronic packaging. This paper reports the behaviour of ACF joints under various mechanical loading, i.e., die shear and cyclic fatigue in shear. The mechanical behaviour of ACF joints that have been exposed to environmental effects, i.e., high moisture and elevated tempe...
